Richele Ames, A.M. KindergartenMrs. Ames holds a B.A. in education from Arizona State University. Before coming to GCS she taught for 10 years in Mesa Public Schools and three years in Kyrene Public Schools. |
Debbie Briggs, SpanishGod brought Mrs. Briggs to Arizona in January of 2010 as a result of her husband’s position at Central Christian Church. She has earned two degrees in Spanish, one from Hanover College (B.A.) and the other from Illinois State University (M.A.). Mrs. Briggs has taught Spanish in both public and Christian schools and came to us with seven years of recent experience as Dean of Faculty in a Christian school near Chicago, overseeing teacher development and evaluation. She and her husband, Dave, have two sons in full-time ministry and four grandchildren. Mrs. Briggs loves to motivate both students and teachers and is blessed to be a faculty member of Gilbert Christian Schools. |
Melissa Cantrell, Grades 2-3Mrs. Cantrell has a BS in elementary education and a MA in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University. She home schooled her three children for nine years and served as the Children's Ministries Director at the Church of the Redeemer for six years. |
Terrece Crawford, Grade 1Mrs. Crawford is so excited to be joining our GCS team of teachers. She has a warm and gentle personality, and she loves working with children. She has been a Christian since the age of 9 and has taught both kindergarten and 1st grades since 1985. In addition to her elementary education degree, Mrs. Crawford also has a master’s degree in art. She is delighted to share this talent with the budding artists in her class next year. Mrs. Crawford has two sons who will be attending ASU. She is moving to Arizona to be near her boys and start the next exciting chapter of her teaching career here at Gilbert Christian. |
Michele Cunningham, Grades 2-3Mrs. Cunningham taught primary at GCS for three years from 2000-2003. Many of her former students still attend Gilbert Christian Schools and are heading into high school now. Since then, she has earned her Arizona real estate license and was a full-time real estate professional for five years before returning to GCS in 2008. Mrs. Cunningham attended ASU as an English major, where she met and married GCS high school English teacher, Jim Cunningham. They have three sons Jameson, Matthew, and Jordan, who attend ASU and CGCC. |
Melissa Day, Grades 2-3Ms. Day has a God-given love for curriculum, instruction and specifically teaching reading. In fact, she holds a master of arts in curriculum and instruction from ASU with a reading endorsement. She worked on her undergraduate degree in elementary education at Moody Bible Institute where integrating the Word of God with every lesson they prepared and taught was standard practice. Her expertise, coupled with a love for Christian education makes Ms. Day a wonderful addition of our GCS elementary team. Before coming to GCS, Ms. Day worked at Archway Classical Academy where she taught many of the same curriculums we use. Natasha Desmarchais, Physical EducationMrs. Desmarchais is certified in Arizona to teach physcial education for kindergarten to 12th grade. She has taught all levels of physical education, including elementary, junior high and high school in Mesa for 12 years. Mrs. Desmarchais and her husband, Jim, have been married 22 years and have two sons, both of which attend GCS. Mrs. Desmarchais is passionate about teaching and training students to instill in them a love of physical activity and a desire to be active throught their lifetime. She loves the Lord, her husband, family and friends. She also loves watching sports, hiking or playing games, going to the movies and reading books. |

Denise Flora, Pre-KindergartenMrs. Flora earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of South Florida. She taught in Florida for four years. Denise and her husband Trey moved to Arizona in 2005. Denise is certified in Montessori education and has thoroughly enjoyed integrating some of their hands-on materials into the Gilbert Christian Pre-school program. She began her teaching career at Gilbert Christian Schools in 2010. The one rule that is most important to her and the one that she teaches daily at GCS is God’s Golden Rule. God's blessings abound and being a teacher at Gilbert Christian School is one of them for Denise.

Breanna Grizzle, Grades 4-5Ms. Grizzle has her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Missouri Southern State University. She also graduated with an associate's degree in Bible and elementary education from Ozark Christian College. Before coming to Gilbert Christian, Ms. Grizzle taught for two years at J.O. Combs Unified School District in San Tan Valley. During school breaks you can probably find her traveling to Southwest Missouri to visit her family and friends or flying to exciting places like Europe or Africa. She loves to teach students about God's love, and is thankful she is able to every day at GCS! |
Bobbie Kost, Grades 4-5Mrs. Kost earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Grand Canyon College/University. She taught fourth grade for three years in the Avondale/Goodyear School District. She has been married for 21 years and has five beautiful daughters. Mrs. Kost homeschooled her three oldest daughters and they have adopted two more girls who will be attending GCS. She loves studying God’s Word, history, and literature. She believes that God has called her to GCS and is excited to share her love for the Lord and life-long learning with her students. |
Robin Lindberg, Grade 1Mrs. Lindberg earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Arizona State University. She taught in the Kyrene School District in Phoenix for five and a half years. Mrs. Lindberg and her husband home schooled their two sons for five years. She began her teaching career at Gilbert Christian Schools as a substitute teacher and part-time home school teacher in 2005. Mrs. Lindberg considers being a teacher at GCS a great privilege and a blessing. |
Valerie Manley, KindergartenMrs. Manley brings wonderful teaching experiences and a gentle and sweet spirit to her afternoon half-day kindergarten position. Mrs. Manley taught 1st grade at Canyon Elementary School before leaving to begin her family and stay home with her 2 daughters. Mrs. Manley serves at Life Link Church teaching in the Children’s church ministry and loves sharing the love of God with young children. She is a graduate of ASU with a degree in elementary education. She is happy about working with students at Gilbert Christian because of the opportunity to blend her love of teaching with her Christian faith. |
Kim Martin, All-Day KindergartenMrs. Martin has been married to her husband Fran for 22 years. They have three children, Amanda (2008 graduate), Nick, and Mike. Mrs. Martin graduated from Arizona College of the Bible with a degree in Elementary Education and Bible and from Northern Arizona University with an M.Ed in Elementary Education. Sarah Martin, Grades 2-3Mrs. Martin earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Arizona State University. She has plans to complete her Master’s degree in the near future. Mrs. Martin substitute taught in the Tempe Elementary School district for a year before coming to Gilbert Christian Schools, where she has been teaching since 2010. She and her husband have been involved as high school small group leaders at Redemption Church in Gilbert since 2007. Mrs. Martin truly enjoys working for Gilbert Christian Schools. |
Jeanne Murray, Grades 2-3Mrs. Murray earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. She was a Training Instructor at America West Airlines for five years at which time she resigned to enjoy the blessings of being a mom. Mrs. Murray earned a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Phoenix while her daughter was an infant and began her teaching career at Gilbert Christian Schools as playground aide and substitute teacher in 2008. She is married to Joel and their daughter Hailey is a student at Gilbert Christian Schools. Mrs. Murray considers teaching at GCH a great blessing and cherishes every day with her students! |
Lisa Pearson, Grades 4-5Mrs. Pearson is a co-founder of GCS with ten years of teaching experience. She has a bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders and Psychology, and an M.S. in Communication Disorders. Mrs. Pearson worked in the Kyrene School District for three years as a speech therapist. She was then able to stay home with her son Kyle and daughter Jenna. Mrs. Pearson feels so blessed to be teaching at GCS. |
Nancy Poweleit, Grades 2-3Mrs. Poweleit has extensive experience in teaching foreign languages including French, German, Spanish and Japanese. She is married to Christian and has two sons, Christian and Drew, who attend GCS. Her hobbies are spending time with her family and doing a Beth Moore Bible study. |
Lynda Redding, Grades 4-5Mrs. Redding earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and State Certification from Tennessee Temple University. She taught at two Christian schools in Chattanooga, TN before coming to Gilbert Christian in 2009. She has been married to Jerome, GCS’s Bible teacher, for 27 years and has two grown daughters. Mrs. Redding is passionate about teaching and loves being a part of the team here at Gilbert Christian. |
Brenna Renaud, Grade 1 Mrs. Renaud earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education from Texas Woman’s University and her bachelor’s degree in English and Communications from The University of Iowa. Mrs. Renaud began teaching at Gilbert Christian in 2010 and taught previously in Texas. Mrs. Renaud and her husband have two daughters, Katie and Grace. Being a military family, Mrs. Renaud and her family value the family atmosphere among the staff, parents, and students at Gilbert Christian. |
Julie Roman, Music Appreciation Miss Roman earned her bachelor’s degree in choral/general music education from Arizona State University where she studied with Ciao Pagano, Janice Thompson, and Sandra Stauffer. She is certified by the state of Arizona to teach music to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, and she is working toward her national certification with the Music Teachers National Association. Miss Roman has eleven years of experience as a private piano instructor and a music theory tutor. She is also an active member of the East Valley Music Teachers Association. When she’s not teaching or performing, Miss Roman loves to hike, ride, sew, draw, read, and spend time with people from her church. This is Miss Roman’s first year at Gilbert Christian Schools, and she loves working with the students, parents, and staff. She would like to thank God for bringing her to the school. |
Melissa Schumacher, Grades 4-5Mrs. Schumacher received her bachelor's degree in business administration at University of Tennessee and worked as an area administrator for Q Clubs Inc. for nine years. In 2004 God brought Mrs. Schumacher, Craig, her husband of 17 years, her son Jack and her daughter Jordan to Gilbert, Arizona. At that time she joined the Gilbert Christian Schools staff as an elementary teacher. She feels extremely blessed to be a part of this incredible school. |
Nicole Sundt, All-Day KindergartenMrs. Sundt graduated from Montana State University with a degree in finance and a minor in accounting. This is her 5th year of teaching here at Gilbert Christian Schools. Mrs. Sundt has been married to Mr. Sundt for twenty years. Kathy Weinhausen, ArtMrs. Weinhausen holds a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications with an emphasis in journalism and a minor in religious education from Oral Roberts University. Before coming to GCS, she spent more than four years as an online elementary teacher at Alpha Omega Academy. She was also an extended kindergarten teacher and a preschool teacher. Mrs. Weinhausen and her husband of 26 years have three grown children who are all in the creative arts field. Her passion is to glorify the Lord in the gifts He has given her and to encourage others to enjoy and excel in whatever work the Lord is calling them to do. |
Bruce Wilkison, StringsMr. Wilkison holds a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from the University of Michigan School of Music. He joined the first violin section of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra in 1984, and after eighteen seasons with the orchestra, he came to GCS as the strings teacher. He is also the coach of the GCS cross country teams. He and his wife have three children. |
